Neck Pain

What causes neck pain?

There are a number of causes, but neck pain is a response that your nervous system has to stress. Stress comes in the form of trauma, toxins and thoughts. Frequently people think that their neck pain is coming from their tight muscles. But what causes our muscles to get tight? Stress does and our nervous system recognizes this and changes how our body is working. However, the nervous system does not always respond to stress in a symptomatic way the moment that stress happens. Sometimes neck pain is a response to chronic poor ergonomic stress on the body, which slowly breaks it down until you have the pain feel like it suddenly came out of nowhere. It can also come on suddenly after a car accident and experiencing whiplash, slip and fall or collision playing sports from that direct trauma.

Some people self-medicate with Excedrin, Advil, Tylenol or may use a massage gun or actual therapist. They may even consult with their primary care doctor or orthopedic that may recommend muscle relaxers, nerve medication or even surgery. These don’t get to the root cause of neck pain, but help suppress the symptoms that commonly return. For those dealing with neck pain not looking for a “chiropractor near me” that want to do things on their own that work at a computer here is a DIY guide for you here.

How do we evaluate for neck pain?

We first start with a complementary phone consultation to get a better idea of what is going on and if what you have would be a good fit with our office. If it seems that we will be able to help you, the second step will be to schedule an appointment for you where we will do our testing process and evaluate where your body is out of balance. Third, we will let you know what the best steps will be for you and what you are dealing with after these tests. Fourth we will then go over your recommendations for care to address what is causing your problem.

What services do we provide?

Our goal is to get you feeling better as quickly as possible, for some people that may take days and some it may take weeks. The foundation of what we do in the office is the chiropractic adjustment. When appropriate we will also include corrective and strengthening exercises and stretches. We also make lifestyle recommendations to help incorporate better ergonomics, sleep routines, food choices, nutrition and more.
